Is treatment covered by my health plan?

Most health plans include a certain amount of coverage for visits to a registered psychologist.  I work under the supervision of Dr. Jill Pickett, a registered psychologist who provides me with guidance and supervision behind the scenes.  I can supply a receipt, signed by her, that you can submit to your health plan for reimbursement.

How much will it cost?

A one-hour session costs $165, payable by cheque or cash at the time of the visit.  Visits not covered by health plans cost $150.

How often will we meet?

I find psychotherapy to be most efficient if we can meet once a week for the first four weeks.  After that, we can meet less frequently if financial considerations require it.

How long will therapy take?

The national average for therapy is ten sessions, but treatment time varies widely according to individual circumstances.  Even after therapy has been completed, I sometimes see clients—often after a period of months or years—who seek help with specific concerns.

What is your cancellation policy?

We ask that you provide 24 hours’ notice, so that someone else can use the session if you cannot make it.  If you must cancel a session with less than 24 hours’ notice, you will be billed for half a session.

What does certification mean?

The OACCPP (Ontario Association of Consultants, Counsellors, Psychometrists and Psychotherapists) certifies members who have displayed successful experience as a therapist, submit and critique one or more work samples in their area of expertise, and successfully pass both written and oral examinations.  EMDRIA (The International EMDR Association) certifies members who have had a minimum of two years experience in their field, have completed an EMDRIA approved training program in EMDR, have conducted a minimum of fifty clinical sessions in which EMDR was utilized, and have received twenty hours of consultation in EMDR by an Approved Consultant.  In addition they must complete twelve hours of continuing education in EMDR every two years.
